Note of Gratitude

Derek Sivers is my favorite person on the internet. Full stop. Ever since I landed in his world back in 2016, his ideas, and his way of being, have been inspiring me to walk my own path, and do things my own way.

In fact, Derek's book Anything You Want is a big reason this very website exists. One of the key ideas in that book is that when you make a business, you have the freedom to make it magical. You can break the rules that drain you and build a utopia, both for you and the people you serve. That utopian ideal has stuck in my mind for years, and it directly led to how I now think about creating oases.

Derek helped pioneer the "Now Page," which has singlehandedly made the internet more delightful and human. He's pioneering new ways of selling and pricing books, and undermining many of the annoying practices of the publishing industry.

Perhaps the most inspiring thing about Derek, though, is his aliveness. You can feel it in his writing. You can hear it in his voice whenever he's interviewed on a podcast. The guy is just so vibrantly alive, and it's a constant reminder that I can be, too.
